1799 - David Woodard, Heir of Quinny Braswell

In Colonial Law married women's property was always legally received in their husband's name.  Elizabeth Braswell was married to David Woodard, and was referred to as Elizabeth Woodard in her father's will.  See Samuel Braswell's 1794 Nash County will.  David Woodard was the legal heir of Quinny Braswell, in right of his wife, Elizabeth.

1789 - Bolen Beckwith to David Woodard

This is David's 1st deed.  By law, he had to be 21 years of age to purchase land which means he was born by 1768.  David moved to Robertson County, Tennessee sometime after 1810.  His birth year is confirmed on the 1850 Robertson County census.  

This Indenture made this 16th day of April the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty Nine between Bolin Beckwith of the county of Nash in the state of North Carolina of the one part and David Woodard of the county and state aforesd of the other part Witnesseth that the said Bolin Beckwith for and in consideration of the sum of sixty Pounds Specie to him in hand paid and by His Receipt whereof doth hereby acknowledge --- and himself fully satisfied and paid hath granted bargained sold alliened ------- Released & confirmed and by these presents doth give grant Bargain sell alien In fee off (?) relas (?) & confirm unto David Woodard his heirs & assigns for Ever two hundred acres of Land more or less Lying in the county of Nash on Pigbasket Creek it Being part of a Tract of land Granted to the sd. Bolin Beckwith by the state of North Carrolina by a Deed Bearing Date the tenth day of November in the fourth year of our Independence and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & seventy nine Butted and Bounded as followeth Beginning at Turkey (?) oak on the North side of the said Creek Micajah {196} Thomas corner then running East 94 pole to post oak a corner then North by a line of Marked trees to pine a corner in the original line then west one hundred & fourteen pole to a black oak in Arthur Brasswells Line then along his line south one hundred & seventy Eight pole to a Burch in the sd Creek then down the meander thereof to the Begining With the reversion & reversions Rents Issues and profits thereof and of Every part and parcel thereof with the appertainences together with all the rights titles Estates Interest claim & Demand Whatsoever of him the said Bolin Beckwith of in & to the aforesd land & premises to him the sd David Woodard his heirs & assigns for ever to his and there only proper use and Behoof & the said Bolin Beckwith doth covenant & agree both for himself his heirs Extrs & Admins. to give the said David Woodard his heirs & assigns that he will warrant and for Ever Defend the afforsd. David Woodard his Heirs be In the Peacible possesion of the sd. 1793 - Micajah Thomas to James Woodard

This Indenture made this thitieth day of July in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty four by and between Micajah Thomas of Nash County and state of North Carolina of the one part and James Woodard of the county and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Micajah Thomas for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred Pounds to him in hand paid by the said James Woodard at & before the Ensealing & Delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I the said Micajah Thomas do hereby acknowledge hath grant Bargained & sold and doth by these presents Grant bargain & sell make over and confirm unto said James Woodard his heirs and assigns for Ever one certain tract or Parcel of Land lying on the North side of Pigbasket Creek containing two hundred & Eighty nine acres more or less Being part of a tract of Land Granted to Micajah Thomas by the Earl of Granville the deed beares date one thousnad Seven hundred an sixty and bounded as followeth Begining at a red oak on the north Side of Pigbasket Creekthence Est 327 Pol to a pine then south 120 Pol then So 65 Wst 75 Pol to a white oake near Hollands Branch --in containing the same courses 200 Pol to a hicory on the creek then up the creek to the first station Together with all woods Timbers and Timber trees wood & under woods Water and Water courses within or Too the said premises belonging with the reversion & reversions remainder & remainders and all the Estate right title & Interest Claim & Demand whatsoever of him the Sd Micajah Thomas his heirs & of in and --the sd Lands & premises & off in and to every Part & parcel thereof To have and To hold the said tract of Land and premises above mention with the appertainances there unto belonging unto the said James Woodard his heirs and assigns and to the only Proper use and behalf of him the said James Woodard his heirs and assigns for ever the aforesaid Lands & premises and all and Singular the appertenances thereunto Belonging unto the said James Woodard his heirs & assigns forever and shall well and trully warrant and Defend the afore sd. 1806 - Spring Creek of Red River Primitive Baptist Church

June 16, 1810, a "Mary Stark (or Branwell as used to be) is listed among the members of the Primitive Baptist Church  of Spring Creek of the Red River.  I believe she is Mary Woodard, sister of David Woodard and his sister Elizabeth who was married to (1) Daniel Holland (2) William Taylor.  I also believe she is the widow of Micajah Hunt Braswell who died in Nash County, North Carolina in 1804 and the mother of Samuel Braswell of Robertson County, Tennessee.

1803 - David Woodard to Daniel Woodard

This Indenture made this -- day of --- 1803 Between David Woodard of Nash County No Carolina of One part & Daniel Woodard of the County & State aforesaid of the Other part witnesseth that I the said David Woodard for an Inconsideration of the Sum of forty five pounds Virg.a Curr--cy to me in hand paid the Receipt whereof I do here by acknowledge I have bargained & sold unto the said Daniel Woodard a Certain tract of Land in the County aforsd on the No side pig basket Creek bounded as Followeth Begin at a Red oak on the no side of said Creek then East by Aaron Woodards line 36 pole to a black Jack then No 21 Wt 255 pole a pine in Morris ----- ---- line then Wt by said line 38 pole to a black Jack then So by said Morris's line 142 (?) pol to the Creek then Down meanders of said Creek to the first station Containing 100 acres more or less to have and to hold the said land & premises with all woods mines menerals or any thing thereunto belonging or appertaining & I the said David Woodard for me my heirs Exrs & the said land and premises ill (?) warrant & forever Defend unto the sd Daniel Woodard him & his heirs and assigns forever against the claim of all persons whatsoever in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the day and year first above written}

1797 - Daniel Holland Land Grant

Daniel Holland married Elizabeth Woodard, daughter of James & Mary Woodard of Nash County, North Carolina.  Notice that Arthur Pitt is the C.C.  Compare with post 1806 - Spring Creek of Red River Primitive Baptist Church.

State of North Carolina

No 3331 Know ye that we have granted unto Daniel Holland assignee of the Heirs of John Rowland a private in the Continental line of said State, six hundred and forty acres of Land in Tennessee County on Spring Creek a Water of red river Beginning on the State line about a half mile East of Si-he (?) Stanley's at a post Oak, runs South three hundred and twenty poles to a black Oak, thence West three hundred and twenty poles to a black Jack, thence North three hundred and twenty poles to a hicory on the State line then East with the State line to the Beginning. To Hold to the said Daniel Holland his Heirs and assigns forever dated the 6th of December 1797.
